Google runs two separate Lighthouse audits: one simulating a mid-range mobile phone on a throttled 4G connection, and one simulating a desktop machine on a fast connection. Mobile scores are almost always lower, and mobile is the one that matters most — Google indexes and ranks using the mobile version of your page. This scanner runs both at the same time so you can compare them side by side.

Core Web Vitals are Google's three user-experience metrics: LCP (Largest Contentful Paint — how long until the main content appears), INP (Interaction to Next Paint — how quickly the page responds to a tap or click), and CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift — how much the layout jumps around while loading). LCP is usually the highest-impact one to fix, and it is most often caused by a large unoptimised hero image or a slow server response.

Google reports two kinds of measurement. Lab data comes from a single simulated page load and is always available. Field data comes from the Chrome User Experience Report — real visits by real Chrome users over the previous 28 days — and only appears once a page has enough traffic to be statistically meaningful. A newer or lower-traffic page will show lab data only. That is normal, and the lab results are still actionable.

No — Lighthouse performance scores are genuinely variable. Each run is a real page load subject to network conditions, server load, and third-party scripts that behave differently each time. Swings of five to ten points between runs are expected. Treat the score as a range rather than a precise figure, and use the Opportunities list (which is far more stable) to decide what to actually fix.
